Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, trauma, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues, and even creative blocks. Many people also find social workers can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. A social worker can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution.

At Valor Counseling and Consultation Services, LLC, I provide both supportive treatment and exploratory treatment. Read more below to see which is right for you:

SUPPORTIVE TREATMENT - Supportive treatment includes one therapy session per week with the goal of reducing distressing symptoms such as low mood, lethargy, withdrawal, anxiety, low self-esteem, and other unwanted symptoms. Evidence-based approaches are used to identify healthy alternatives to self-defeating behaviors, increase self-efficacy, and enhance overall coping. Supportive therapy can also help restore self-confidence, find solutions to personal problems, and gain insight into relationship concerns.

EXPLORATORY TREATMENT - Exploratory treatment involves two to three therapy sessions per week. By engaging in frequent sessions, you and I will have the necessary time it takes to take a deep dive into who you are, discovering where your persistent behavioral patterns come from, and understanding why your reactions take the form that they do. We will bring into self-awareness the full recognition of your deepest source of anxiety or distress. In exploratory treatment, you will gradually learn how major events and relationships from your past are connected to your daily life and current behaviors, perhaps at times to your detriment. Furthermore, it is not uncommon to have an underdeveloped sense of oneself secondary to trauma, cumulative trauma, or just the ordinary difficulties of life. In exploratory treatment, we will make sure your authentic self is found, named, and recognized. During this treatment, we also gradually assimilate these new insights into your overall personality, to help you achieve a fully realized version of yourself.

Regardless of the treatment you chose, some of the benefits available from therapy include:

  • Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values
  • Developing skills for improving your relationships
  • Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy
  • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety
  • Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures
  • Improving communications and listening skills
  • Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones
  • Discovering new ways to solve problems in your family or marriage
  • Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence
